It is said that nature works in it's own mysterious ways. It can also be said that Nature and God are one and the same.

No power can be greater than the wrath of nature and it was proved right once again on 12th June, 1897 when a devastating earthquake with an intensity of 8.8 occurred in Assam, India. As damage from this quake extended upto Kolkata, it shook the earth as far as Ahmedabad and Peshawar in modern Pakistan.
Amidst all this damage, at the foot of the Garo Hills bordering Meghalaya and Assam, a beauty called Chandubi Lake was born.
Located about 65 kms from Guwahati city, this area is covered by dense forest and many small villages, proving to be the perfect weekend getaway for the best of natural sightseeing and picnics for people of the city.
What to see and do
The main feature of this lake is the natural lagoon that has been formed within the lake. Chandubi Lake is also home to many aquatic plants and fish. Elephants are a common sight in the evenings.
The lake attracts a huge number of migratory birds during the winter and along with the dense, mostly unexplored jungles, tea gardens and the exotic culture of the local Rabha Community, Chandubi Lake is a photographer's paradise.
As not many people know of this place, it is still 'untouched' by the arrogance of man. Thus, allowing Chandubi Lake to be a calm and quiet retreat. Tourists are allowed to go fishing and enjoy boat rides on country boats around the lake.

How to reach there
Guwahati is well connected to all major cities in India by road, air and rail.
It is less than a 2 hour drive from Guwahati city by car or bus. Public transport does not go all the way, so hire a cab from the city.
The road to Chandubi Lake is also very beautiful, so a hired vehicle is better if you want to stop and take a few pictures. (There will be many places that you would want to..)
Check out our ride to Chandubi Lake in this short video.
Best Time to Visit
Anytime during October to April for the best experience.

Where to stay
Though Chandubi Lake can be a day-long trip, if one wants to explore the jungle treks or just go for a quiet Nature Walk, there are camping facilities available across the lake.
Below are 2 places that arrange camping activities, treks and nature walks among a few other things.
Chandubi Eco-Camp
Chandubi Jungle Camp
You can also stay at the Tourist Lodge, but you will need to take all rations with you like food, water and even kerosene. So, for an overnight stay, you might as well enjoy camping under the starry night sky.
